Small Business Online Marketing Biggest Mistake

by Josh Garcia

small business online marketing

Small business online marketing can be frustrating. Especially, to those that start doing it and don’t see the results of it.

Do understand that online marketing is a game that is always changing. What worked 1-2 years ago may not work today.

However, the foundation of online marketing hasn’t change and it won’t change. Reason being…It’s a Mindset!

Couple days ago, I wrote about small business online marketing should be fun and effective.

Since I use all tools available, I received this comment from Melody in LinkedIn. Melody helps operate a family business.

Melody’s comment:

“I think not knowing where to start is the #1 reason – that and time to implement whatever strategies you come up with! I know social media will help our family business and most small/local companies in my niche either don’t do it or you can see they tried something, didn’t get anywhere in a few months (or got busy) and abandoned the arena. I’ve also seen where people go out and get everything at once, FB page, twitter account, etc. and then it sits idle because they can’t keep up.”

To answer this, Melody does mention the #1 reason why so many business owners or self employed individuals don’t get started. They simply don’t know where to start.

The number #2: Not having enough time to implement.

It is overwhelming for individuals when they are receiving 2 or 3 emails a day on the hottest gadgets or tricks to online marketing.

When it comes to small business online marketing and you are going to do it yourself. Always start by taking small actions. Don’t try to get everything done in one week.

Online marketing is about testing and tweaking. If something doesn’t go right the first time. It doesn’t mean that strategy doesn’t work. You have to go back and modify it.

Start small and finish strong!

Better yet…Start slow to go fast!

Start small with Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, or LinkedIn. Don’t try to do everything all at once.

Typically, what ends up happening…You won’t finish the project you started.

Start small by sticking to a plan.

Don’t underestimate the value of social media marketing or online marketing. The moment you do…You will not be able to generate 1 lead from it!

Hi Josh,

I actually like both, however I think Facebook is a much better way to connect and build a fan base.

FB makes it really easy to integrate your personal page with your business page and this creates consistency.

Nice post BTW!

Hi Josh,

Awesome post and video! Every time I watch the newest facts about social media I start to get goosebumps. And just think…Facebook, Twitter, Google, LinkedIn, etc. are still infants and toddlers. We haven’t even scratched the surface of the possibilities yet.

Small businesses who ignore social media as means for marketing will soon be out of business. It’s an absolute MUST!

Thanks for this great info!

Hi Ilka,

Great to see you! You are correct about ignoring social media as a vehicle to generate business.

Have a great day…
