What Is The Key Secret To Success? Do You Know…

by Josh Garcia on February 4, 2010

Keys To Success

In sports, there are stars and there are legends. There are those who perform way above average and there are those who, through their magnificent performances, rewrite the sport’s history. The difference between those great performers and the outstanding ones is the second effort.

That’s true in sports and it’s also true in everyday life. Those who have made it to the top were the dedicated and determined few who could reach down within themselves and come up with that second effort, the one that went above and beyond of what was expected of them.

In today’s world, the competition is so fierce that the difference between success and failure is seen with the smallest of margins. The spoil goes to the one who wanted it the most and who was determine enough to go the extra mile in order to get it.

Tony Robbins gives us a very good example of what it means to give that second effort. Most speakers who want to make it in the self-improvement industry usually give an average of three public speeches a week. Tony would give three a day.

Most people who write a book on personal development take roughly a year to do it. Tony wrote Unlimited Power, a book that sold millions of copies, in twenty-nine days while traveling the Country to give his seminars.

Donald Trump is another great example. The man has not taken more than three days vacations in the last two decades. He says that taking longer vacations would break his rhythm and would require too much time to get back into the groove.

No wonder these guys are mega-successes. They have the courage and determination required to pay the price that has to be paid to succeed. The success that they enjoy did not come out of the blue. They paid for it by giving that second effort.

We live in a world where, for most, the word “effort” sounds like a sacrilege. Everything has to come up fast and require the least possible effort. Anyone can survive by following that recipe but it’s not the road to success.

The hardest lesson to learn in the art and science of self-improvement is the fact that “there is no free lunch.” Everything has a price and unless the price is paid, the goods will not be delivered.

Most gurus in the self-help industry will not touch the subject of hard work with a ten-foot pole. They know better. They know that no one would be willing to pay good money to hear someone say that success is the result of hard work coupled with that second effort.

Instead of telling the obvious truth, these self-anointed holders of the “Secret” will come up with some slick recipe for success. They will tell you that you attract success with the power of your thoughts. There is some truth to that… so long as those thoughts are coupled with hard work. It’s the only way that anyone has ever achieved success.

The truth is simple and there is no secret, without action there is no reward and without effort, there is no success.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Hey Dwayne,

It’s so easy to come off that consistent path. That is why I maintain my goals in front of me at all times. So I can read them and know what I’m doing is for a purpose.

MJ knows about consistent work habits…

Hey Josh,

That video hit me, well selected.

You raised some good points here. I have also noticed a lot of product sellers always quote their winning campaigns, but never discuss all the losses they made to find that 1 winner.

Lets face it we all have to fail before we reach our goals.

Nice post my friend.

Hey Wayne,

I’ll tell you what…The one thing I programmed in my mind “In order for me to succeed I must fail first.” If you study every successful person. They all say the same thing, “Failure is your best friend.”

Have a great day!

Hi Josh,

Hard work. Consitancy. Perserverance. Never learning how to quit. Those are my thoughts about what is success.

Most overnight successes had to work hard for years to reach their breakthrough.

I loved that new MJ commercial. He wasn’t an overnight success either and even after he became famous he still ‘failed’ at times. He missed more than 9,000 shots in his career. Lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times he’s been trusted to take the game-winning shot … and missed. He failed over and over again. He averaged 30+ shots a game and only made 47% of them. He always threw the ball up. Some games his averages were better than others, but he would never not play the game.

There’s a lesson to learn here. “Failure is nothing more than another opportunity to succeed.”

Hi Ilka,

You are so correct! The only way anyone will lose is if they quit…I never seen anyone win anything by quitting. Simple rule to follow, never quit regardless how tough it gets.

Wow…you sure do know some MJ history. #23 is to ever live strong!

Hey Josh,

Great post and choice for the video. MJ has always been an inspiration for me, especially being from the Chicagoland area.

If there is anyone we can take a lead from, it would be him. He failed MANY times and as a result he was a success. That’s my secret! “Be willing to fail enough times in order to succeed.”

Have an awesome day my friend,

Jerome Ratliff

Hello Jerome,

It’s nice to see you here…Thanks for the compliment! I figured a lot of people will be able to relate since most know who MJ is.

I never been to Chicago…It’s one of the places I’m going to visit.

Thanks for sharing your secret. :)
