Do you know what RSS is? On this blog you’ll find it on the top right corner with the words “Subscribe” and a small orange button. This tiny button is very powerful to use in your personal blog for your readers and the publisher.
RSS is being used by millions on the web. And yet so many still not using it or understand the power of it. It allows you to keep up to date with your favorites sites or blogs without having to save a bunch of bookmarks in your browser.
You see when you save a bunch of bookmarks you have to remember to regularly visit the site/blog to see if they updated the content.
What does RSS do?
RSS readers or aggregators gathers updated information from websites or blogs. This little tool goes out on the web and searches all the sites or blogs you subscribe to and lets you know if something new has been publish.
- You no longer have to worry if you are missing fresh content from your favorite blogs like this one.
It does the surfing for you. - You don’t have to worry about seeing the same information on sites that don’t update their content on a regular basis.
- It doesn’t have to get nasty when you are following a lot of sites or blogs by bookmarking. Let this cool FREE service do the work for you.
In case you are wondering what RSS stands for? Really Simple Syndication
Here is another way to look at it…It’s like subscribing to your favorite magazine. It comes to your door every month and you don’t have to drive to the supermarket every day to see if it is on the shelf.
To Make This Happen You Need an RSS Reader?
RSS Reader is not hard to find. Most popular reader is Google Reader. This is the one I use. I like because it’s Free and does the job! There are other free readers as well.
When you are on a blog typically there are two ways to subscribe:
1. Browser Subscription
![]()
2. On the blog, there are 2 places to subscribe to RSS. Look for this button:
![]()
You are probably wondering what about my blog do I have same options for my readers?
Most blogging services provide a RSS feed for your readers. More than likely, if you’ll check into it you will discover the feed is already on your blog and you do not have to do anything.
However, if your blogging service does not provide feeds for your readers than you can use your search engine to find one. Most of these services are free, and will provide you with an icon for your blog.
RSS readers are useful for individuals who visit many websites and blogs on a daily basis. Having to go through bookmarks or remember URLs can be frustrating and a time waster.
Before you go, go ahead and share this with you friends on Twitter & Facebook by pressing the 2 little buttons on the top right (blue & green button)
While you’re at it, love to connect with you on facebook & twitter…

Hey Josh
Strangely RSS seems to be a relativity un-tapped tool. I think although it is easy to use people are still unsure of how to use it or why they should use it. So you have done a great service by presenting RSS to us.
Thank you
Dwayne
Hi Dwayne,
Great to see you! It wasn’t till a couple of months when I really took the time to understand it. Yes, it is very very simple tool to use. If you are like me I read a lot of blogs and this keeps it organized.
Have a great day…
Josh
Josh,
Some really good content. RSS is such a simple way to allow people to follow blog updates, but a lot of people still fail to use it. I also just recently started using RSS myself and man it makes life a lot easier. I don’t visit blogs everyday that haven’t posted new content.
Have a great day,
Eric
Hi Eric,
Great to see you! That is great to know that you use RSS. It does make life so much easier.
Have a wonderful day…
Josh
Hey Josh,
Yes, RSS is a an un-sung hero that we all need to be exploiting. It is great for keeping up with multiple blogs and also getting qulaity backlinks to your content on auto-pilot.
As you may have guessed , I love this geeky stuff! (ha)
Hi Wayne,
That is great to see that you as well see the power of RSS. Thanks for mentioning the fact that you get great backlinks on auto-pilot.
Thanks for stopping by!
Josh
Good post Josh. RSS is so misunderstood.
BTW, I couldn’t help but notice your Alexa rank on your blog here # 246,000
Wow, you are truly making a difference!
I’m glad I can watch, learn and listen to what you’re delivering.
I too use RSS, it’s a great way for your reading community to connect with you.
Take care,
Jerome Ratliff
Hi Jerome,
Thanks for stopping by! Thanks for pointing out the Alexa rank. Most individuals don’t know what Alexa rank is. That’s another post down the road. Still have a lot of work to do!
I’m excited to have readers like yourself on this blog and thanks for participating by commenting. It is cool to know as well that you use the power of RSS. It omits the old school of bookmarking sites and then forgetting about them.
Have a great day…
Josh
Hi Josh,
Great post! Just what I needed today. I’m still a bit fuzzy on RSS and my husband asked me just this weekend how it worked and how to get it on his blog. You saved me, thanks, and I will forward this on to him.
Hi Ilka,
Thanks for stopping by and letting me know that I saved you. You just put a BIG Smile on my face.
RSS is a life saver for readers and publishers. You and your husband are going to love it!
Have a wonderful day…
Josh
Haha, that was easy to make you smile. You’re a good guy and your passion for helping people shines through.
I just subscribed to your RSS feed. It was very easy. Thanks for teaching me something new every day.
Your welcome for your kind words, Ilka!
Good stuff, Josh!
You’re going to have to package this stuff in a book and sell it to us pretty soon here, man.
Yes, RSS is a great tool — I personally like to use Feedburner for my blog because it has so many options — like letting people sign up to get your blog posts by email.
Hi Derek,
Great to see you! Congrats, today you became a celebrity! Good stuff!!!
That’s great to hear that you understand the power of RSS. I get to view a lot of blogs very quickly because of it. On the book, soon my friend.
Have a great evening…
Josh
Hey Josh,
Great idea for a post. This is one of those untouched subjects. With all the blogs I read I have only seen one other post on RSS.
You always give out great tips here. I look forward to coming by.
Hi Chris,
Thanks for the words. Yes, it is an untouched subject. RSS is a very simple tool to use.
Thanks for stopping by…
Josh
