The #1 WordPress Plugin All Bloggers Must Have…Akismet!

by Josh Garcia on April 29, 2010

Akismet

Let me start by saying, Thank you to the creators of Akismet!

When you create your first post. You might start to receive a comment.

Some of the comments that you’ll receive are from real readers, but about 70-90% of the comments are spam comments. Spam comments try to place a link on your blog.

So here is the best way to deal with this issue…

Make sure you install Akismet plugin it is the best solution of handling this commenting problem.

This should be the very first plugin you install to your WordPress Blog. It will help by filtering comment spam and junk comments.

It keeps your blog clean from all of the junk spamming comments that come in daily. I receive between 80-100 spam comments daily.

Understand that most spam comments look for specific programming code that shows you are using a WordPress blog. These comments are software generate that searches and posts comments.

By having the Akismet activated it will block every single one of them. Now, there are times that you might receive a spam comment that actually looks like a real person submitted it.

I know you have other options to prevent spam commenting. But I don’t think you really want to go there. You can get rid of commenting all together in your blog. But this defeats the purpose of building a community around the blog.

You can also set it up so every reader will have to create a user account before commenting.

Here is my question to all the bloggers:

What other plugins are you using besides Akismet to help reduce the spam commenting?

To Your Success,

Josh Garcia

Hi Hector,

Akismet is a must! I get about 80-100 spam comments a day. I had to dig your comments out of the spam folder. I’m glad that Akismet is one tough cookie.

Have a great day!

Hi Josh,

Yes thank goodness for Aksimet! I also use Bad Behavior which Denies automated spambots access to ones site. Between these two plugins all my spam is taken care of.

Cheers

Hi Susanna,

Sounds like you might have to start learning new languages so you can read some of those crazy spam comments. :)

Have an awesome day!

Josh,

This is a great plug-in. The first one I installed.

I use a combination of two and works like a charm.

The only spam comments that are not blocked are the comments that are the messages from my friends that comment but are from a bot.

It is the #1 plug-in and should be used by all.

Hi Tommy,

This plugin should be the very first one any new blogger needs to install. It’s amazing how it captures every spam comment and even from legit readers.

Have a wonderful day!

All Hail Akismet

It is in the top 3 must have plug-ins

It is there on guard day and night waiting for the parasites to attack. Once capture Akismet confines them until you decide what to do with em!

No comments is not an option!

Hi Dwayne,

I’ve been to great blogs where they have comments turned off. I don’t think it’s a wise decision. But I guess they don’t want to be bother.

Have a wonderful day!

Aksimet is awesome, such a time saver.

Unfortunately it sometimes eats real comments also, so it pays to check your spam once in a while.

Thanks mate,

Hey Josh

Started off using Aksimet when I started to blog, then changed to a few more different plug-ins, only to turn Aksimet back on.
It’s a must for any commenting blog.

Hi Jerome,

You are using captcha code with Akismet. Are you still getting spam comment in your spam folder?

Ken West April 29, 2010 at 9:41 pm

Hey Josh,

Akismet is awesome for catching spam. I use it along with WP-spamfree. I installed both right from the start, so I’m not sure if the second helps…but either way, it’s working.

Take care,

Hi Josh,

Those darn buggers! Don’t they have anything better to do than send spam to law abiding citizens?

Akismet was the first plugin I ever installed. It takes care of most of my spam, but some still gets through. I will have to check out Bad Behavior like Marcus suggested.

Have an awesome evening!

Hi Ilka,

I have to go through the spam folder because sometimes I’ll find a real comment in there. Otherwise, I would just hit the delete spam button every time.

Have a great day!

Love me some Akismet. I would probably go postal online if that awesome plugin didn’t capture all of the crap that comes from people online.

A must have on all blogs,
