Is There a Difference Between a Store Front Business & Network Marketing Business?

by Josh Garcia on January 29, 2010

store front

Network marketing is not that different from the shop in the street; it is simply a different type of marketing and distribution channel for the goods or services it offers. When you enroll as a distributor you become part of the marketing arm of that business and when you enroll others they in turn become further marketing and distribution arms.

Yes there are obvious differences – probably the ones that also motivated you to get involved in network marketing rather than having a “physical business” – some of them being:

  • You do not have the large overheads of running a physical business
  • You do not have to carry large amounts of stock (nor worry about the cost implication of that)
  • You do not have to worry about staff, nor “who is going to open the doors”, are they trustworthy…….
  • You do not have the time

However, right at the top of the list of things that Must Be Done, all types of businesses share, whether physical or on the internet, is that of attracting new quality customers/leads on an ongoing basis.

For the most part, whenever someone starts out in network marketing the same old approach is used – make a list of all your friends and family and make contact with them first; then ask them if they know of anyone who might be interested. We’ve all heard it and probably all done it but in the majority of cases it produces little or no business and if it does, it tends to be short lived and does not contribute to you building a strong “down line”.

These people are probably not on the same page as you; they may buy, to “help you out”; they may not want to start a business; they may not understand just how powerful network marketing is; they may think it’s just another of those “pyramid sales” schemes.

People also buy lead lists, why? Most of the time these lists are full of people with the same attitude as those in your friends and family list or they have already been bombarded with the “Next New Opportunity ” to hit the internet.

We have all looked on and marveled at some of the leaders in this business, how they continually attract new customers and always seem to be sponsoring new people into their business; with what appears to be no effort at all.

But how do they do it?

  • They are motivated
  • They are knowledgeable and make use of the facilities that the internet has to offer
  • They share their knowledge
  • They have superior systems in place
  • They target their marketing to obtain the “like minded” prospects

Hi Josh,

I see we run in same circles. I’m a fan of Mike Dillard’s too :) I learned a lot when I read Magnetic Sponsoring for the first time 4 years ago. I’ve done all the wrong stuff and had joined the NFL … No Friends Left.

One tip for those who still want to (or are told to from their upline to) approach family and friends first. Don’t approach them directly, but ask them for referrals. That takes the pressure off of them and they might be more willing to ‘help you out.’

Also, target a specific market and you will be much more successful. If you are selling a “Size 8″ shoe (for example), look for people who are looking for a Size 8 Shoe. That saves you a lot of time and frustration. The other sizes are NOT interested in what you have :)

Hi Ilka,

Thanks for stopping by! I’ve learned a lot as well from him. TF2 was an eye opener on how to generate leads with a Nerve Center.

Keep up with the great work!
Josh

BTW: I’m size 9 :)
