Let me share with you something that I’ve learned over time since I write everyday for this blog.
If you are starting your blog or had a blog for a while but not really gaining any traction. Take a close look at your writing style.
Whenever you are writing your blog article know that it is different than writing a book that you want to publish. The main goal of your writing is to provide fresh effective content.
If you get really good at these rules for writing blog post. You’ll be achieving loyal readers and building relationships.
Here are 3 rules to follow so you can build your loyal readers. I was able to gather these rules by visiting so many blogs and watching what readers like and don’t like.
Rule #1: Allow your article to be able to be scan by the reader in seconds
I want you to remember that people who visit your blog are always in hurry. Therefore, they don’t have the patience like you do when you created the article.
You want to make it possible for the reader to scan your article in seconds by using subheadings with bold letters. This allows the reader to scan your article from top to bottom and have an idea of the points.
By you using bold subheadings I will bet you that you will attract more readers. (I’m not really a betting man)
Rule #2: You want to make sure you are brief but yet detailed
Start off by packing as much info as you can in each paragraph. Do you realize that most of your visits are gonna come from search engines? Therefore, pack some info in those paragraph that you are writing.
After all, the individuals that landed on your post from search engines are hungry for information. So give it to them!
I read a study where individuals that visited a site and it was lacking what they were looking for. The individuals would avoid that site or blog because they remember how the site or blog was lacking the info in the past.
This is why some sites or blog re-design the whole thing so people that visited it the past won’t remember.
Rule #3: Make sure your articles have personality
The main reason you want your articles to be alive is because you can go on the search engines and you’ll find colorful sites or blogs with graphics, photograph, and videos.
So if you are writing a ‘How To’ make sure to use screen capture images or photograph. Have the readers eyeballs all over your article.
You do realize that getting traffic to your site or blog is just half the battle. The other half is to get them to read the post.
Here is a good rule of thumb to go by. The longer a reader stays on your site the higher chances they will purchase something or opt-in to your list.
By following these short simple guideline you’ll be able to attract readers and build a loyal readership base. This is a good strategy to implement right way to increase your traffic.

Josh,
Three VERY important – yet not so simple – things to accomplish for most people. Your articles are all like this so you definitely lead by example.. and that’s what I respect about you man.
But, most people just write and write and write without giving any thought to their readers (..and making it easier to understand)..
Like I said, this ‘style’ of writing is a bit more complex than it seems because it’s done with the reader in mind, which most people overlook. ..hopefully this can help fix those issues.
thanks for sharing this post,

Hi Hector,
The only reason why I’m able to write like this is because of practicing every single day. You are correct about putting your readers in first. This helps out when writing.
Have a wonderful day!
Hey Josh,
You always do this so well. If your reader can scan through the post and still get the message and how it can help someone else, then mission accomplished.
Sometimes I see people write out way too much that it seems like I’m reading a novel. Remembering that people’s attention span is much smaller. So, making it brief and straight to the point, resonates with a lot more people.
You know, the good news is writing is a skill that anyone can acquire.
Have a great day,

Hi Jerome,
I have a short span of attention. Therefore, I don’t like reading long articles or post. I know most readers are the same as me.
Have a great day!
That is the way to build value with your readers by offering them exactly what they are looking for. Getting your viewers on your page is only half the job done and making them stay with your valuable information will make them come over again or opt-in to your list or buy something from you as you said and that is how leaders are made. Have a great day josh
Hi Yadvinder,
You got it! Give your readers what they want and looking for. When you are able to provide the information for your readers. They will spread it all over the internet.
Have a great day!
I think there are some people who prefer in depth posts but the vast majority of people are too busy and since appealing to the vast majority is a good idea, following your advice here is very important Josh.

Hi Marcus,
There is no doubt that some folks like in depth articles. But I know that majority of the crowd don’t have a lot of time to read all of their favorite blogs. That is why I write short and sweet.
Have an awesome day, Mate!
Hey Josh
Each headline should aim to “close” the reader so they read the next sentence.
The next sentence should “close” the reader so they read the next sub-head. The sub-head should “close” the reader so that they continue reading and so on all the way down the the “share me’s & the opt-in box”.
Good tips. Making your content scan-able is very important and make sure that what is scanned is full of value.

Hey Josh,
It really is hard to make myself read a blog post if it’s not broken up and easy on the eyes. I do a lot of reading every day and it’s painful to try to read one that looks like a few pages out of a book.
All of these are great tips and will greatly improve the readership of your blog.

Josh, l like your advices here.
As you know I like to write my articles in a simple – easy to understand way (that has something to do with English not being my native language)
, but as I could see comments, people support that way of writing and I am so glad
So maybe that can be one more tip, that goes well with your tips here, cause many people from all around the world read our posts and its great if anyone can understand it.
Great job Josh, you have my support,

Hi Josh,
These are timely tips. The header advice is important. Like a newspaper we look for headlines but also for the subheadings to get a feel for the article.

That is the reason I enjoy reading your blog. You put your personality into your writing. It’s not boring!

Hey Josh,
Those are some really good tips. The biggest one I think for my own preference is making the article easy to scan. If you visit a ton of blogs, there is no way that you could possibly read every word of everyone, unless that’s all you do.
Eric
Hi Eric,
You are just like me. I like to visit blogs and scan them to get the point. I don’t have time to read every single line.
Have a great day!
One other tip that I would add, is that it’s critical to be entertaining at the same time you are giving people information.
People don’t want to hear that they are wrong and they don’t want to be lectured at. This is one of the resons reality TV is so successful. We get to see other people’s mistakes, but we don’t have to admit we are the same way. If you deliver the message in an entertaining way, you will keep the eyeballs on your site, otherwise they get bored.

Rule 3, putting your personality into the post.
This is where your readers can tell if you are real and if the content you are writing is yours and not swiped from another site.
Putting your personality into you posts were sure to get your readers back for more.

Buddy, your copywriting is definitely improving I’ve been checking your stuff out!

Hi Josh,
This is so helpful and given me allot to think about! Tell me sir what would you suggest if one was trying to set out a diary blog?
I know you took time out today to read my diary post, and I must admit before I published it I felt like I wanted to break it up a bit more, (I know I can go through Marc,s stuff sometimes and say “break that up a bit more, bold and underline that bit.) But at the same time I wasn’t to sure how, although as I said you have got me thinking on that one!
Would love your opinion on this one Josh,
and thanks again for the value, look forward to your input,
Donna
.-= Donna Newby´s last blog ..Sharing Your Experiences Of Gratitude To Inspiring Others =-.
Hi Donna,
Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
First, I would like to say great job with your post! Now, my feeling with diary blogs should be kept separate from a business blog. Here is the deal, if you own a business blog and people are visiting that blog to gain information on a service, product, or ‘How To’ information and all of the sudden you throw up a personal diary that doesn’t pertain to the blog. You’ll lose loyal readers!
The best advice I can give you is to keep it separated!
Have an awesome day!
Hi Josh!
You have some great tips. My favorite is making sure you are injecting your personality into your writing. Because honestly, that’s the only way you’ll really be able to stand out from the crowd. You might not be able to compete with totally original ideas, but you can compete by writing with a unique, energetic, engaging and inspiring personality.
Great post!

There’s no doubt you certainly do what you preach, man. This post uses all of the 3 rules you mentioned very effectively. The psychology of rule #2 is very interesting – goes to show just how important it is to have highly impactful content ALL the time.
Wayne
Hi Wayne,
Rule #2 gets violate a lot from individuals that want to write a book on their blog post. Short and Sweet is what most readers like.
