Are you writing just to write?
Are you writing your articles or blog post as a marketing piece?
Do you want to fine tune your copywriting skills? I want to share with you 4 copywriting basics you don’t want to ignore.
When I started this blog I really didn’t know where to even start. Heck, I didn’t even know what the word copywriting meant. However, I didn’t let it stop me from writing and providing you good quality information that you can apply today.
After studying what copywriters do and how to use it on my end. It was like the stadium lights at a football field went on…You do know that is very bright!
The best part is that you can apply copywriting to blogs, capture pages, e-mail marketing, article marketing, and even on social sites like Facebook or Twitter.
Let me share with you the 4 basics of copywriting that I learned in a very short period so you won’t make the mistakes that so many are doing right now!
1. Always cover the basics – Understand that nobody is perfect. Also, understand that you don’t want to get caught in analysis paralysis because you don’t understand the basics. Always give your writing material an overlook for spelling and grammar check before publishing it. Check to make sure your links works if you have any within the article.
2. Know your audience – Make sure you know who you are talking too. What might make a whole lot of sense to you. Your target audience might not fully understand. So be sure you are clear with your instructions. This can be from promoting a product or just giving clear directions for the next step.
3. Taking Action – Are you providing a clear concise action for your audience? When your readers finish reading your article do they have the details to take the next step. It can simply be submitting your article to Facebook, Twitter, or Social Bookmarking sites. Sometimes it can be to attend a seminar or subscribing to an opt-in form.
4. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat – Understand that people need to see messages up to 5 – 11 times before it starts to sink in. Yeah! I know that is a lot but it’s human nature. How many times did your parents had to tell you to stop doing something before you actually listen?
So if you are selling something you’ll have to ask for the sale several times before they actually buy. Sometimes, you have to ask different ways until your audience gets the information.
Go ahead and use these 4 methods and see how effective it is over time.
When you are writing an effective post or article. Keep these 4 tips in mind and watch your business turn and attract more people to you or your events.

Thanks for these great tips. I’m always looking for ways to improve the writing on my blog and I was glad to have stumbled across your blog on problogger!
My biggest problem has always been trying to define my audience and then “targeting” them as you say. I’m slowly getting better at it though as my blog has evolved over the last couple of years!
Thanks for your insight!

Hi Ben,
Thanks for stopping by!
Knowing your audience is gold. I think that is something most struggle with on any kind of business.
Have a great day…
Josh,
Great points. Knowing your audience is critical in today’s world as so many times it seems people are not defining who they are trying to market to. As big as the world is we would love to market to everyone, but reality is marketing to the right one.
Cheers
Byron
Hi Byron,
Knowing your target market and how to market to them is essential. This has to be the two mistakes I see a lot of people make. Thanks for sharing with us.

Hey Josh,
Thanks for getting back to me over on FB. I really enjoy your material, helps speed up the learning process. I decided to step up my efforts and learn as much as I could about keywords, SEO and copywriting. My first step in the right direction was purchasing Dillard’s Copywrite Guild.
I get a ton of value from your work and from other “Better” Bunchers over at JB.com. It really amazes me how the so call web brings everything together from video, blogging, articles but the two musts have to be:
* great content
* your title
That is I guess the hard part, there are about 10 articles/blogs sitting in my draft box that I need to spice up with a good title and a little bit more content. My point is that the information you and the others provide have given me the swift kick in the A$$ that I needed. I posted a blog entry that I start to write 2/9, lol. Since I become a more active member of JB:
* the blog posts and videos have increased
* my blog numbers have taken off since 3/1.
So thanks buddy and have a great day!!

Hey Josh,
Another great post. Copywriting makes all the difference in sales and conversions. This is probably the most overlooked skill on the internet today. Everyone is focusing on PPC and SEO, looking for the company with the best residuals. If you can’t connect with the audience, none of it matters.

Hi Chris,
That is correct! If you can’t connect with the audience. Why bother with SEO or PPC?
Have a wonderful day…
