The Secret of Setting Goals and Achieving Them

by Josh Garcia on July 7, 2010

Setting Goals

Setting goals for a business owner is a must. I’m sure you hear it over and over again that the key to achieve success is by writing down your goals.

But yet so many still don’t write down their goals.

I know there are some individuals that think writing down goals are not important.

Maybe some don’t believe that when you write down your goals it is a great way to make a commitment.

Perhaps the truth can be that so many were never taught how to write down their goals.

The only way I learned how to set goals was by reading books on success. My family never taught me about goal setting. I didn’t learn it from college. It was by reading couple of books that didn’t cost any more than $15.

I would like for you to take a look at this article a great friend of mine wrote. His name is Edward Muñoz. He is a speaker in personal development.

If you’ve spoken to me you’ll notice I like to use the word “Champ”. Well, I got it from Edward. I like to refer to people as champions as everyone has a champion heart.

Here is the great article on how to finish strong in 2010.

So take full action today and grab a hold of your destiny. Simply start by setting goals and achieving them.

Hey Josh

Not only do I write down my goals but I also have a vision board to remind me why I do what I do every day.

What’s next?

Maybe a forehead tattoo :)

Hey Josh,
That was a great article. You definitely can’t let your feelings control your actions. Success will always require us to take an action we may not want to take or we may not feel comfortable taking but the bottom line is that we have to. Edward did a bang up job on that post.

I also like what you said about writing out your goals. Now I must confess, I need to do better at doing that. I write my goals down but I don’t write all of them. Luckily, it’s posts like this that kick me in the butt and get me going. Good work man.

Josh,

You are so right. Having written goals can be the one thing that really pushes a person forward to achieve what they want. When you don’t have written goals, you don’t know where you are going and you will never know if you got there.

Just like I tell my consulting clients- if you cannot form a strong enough picture of what you want in your mind and then write it down, you probably will never get there, because you don’t feel string enough about it.

Thanks for sharing the inspiration Josh.

Writing goals out is the first step in making them tangible. This is where it starts. When it becomes tangible the goal feels more real, inspiring you to move into action toward it.

Josh,
So so important. Writing down my goals, helps me know precisely what I want to achieve, I know where I have to concentrate my efforts. It also helps me to quickly spot any distractions that would otherwise lure me from my course. Great post!

Hey Josh,

I think you make a great point. Sometimes people may not write them down because they simply don’t know HOW to. It’s good to write them down, but finding out how to do it so that it’s more real, and attainable, will also make a difference.

Time to go read that article. ;) Thanks for sharing it.

Hi Susanna,

Great to see you back. :)

I know my problem couple of years back was I didn’t know how to write out goals. I had to teach myself by reading books on success principles. That is one good component that you bring up. Make sure to set attainable goals.

Have a great weekend!

Hi Josh,

My parents never showed me how to set my goals either! Since I got involved in this industry I’ve learned how important it’s to set goals, write them down and place them where you can see them every single day.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful article!

It will do no good if someone wrote down their goals and put it in a drawer. It must be in front of you at all times.

Up on my wall I actually have a giant map of what I want to do this year including small blurbs of things I’d like to accomplish – on top of this I keep a daily list and a eraserboard with weekly activities.

Lemme tell you, it’s helped a ton!
