Wow Josh,

That was a great article! I’m so glad you shared it.

I think reading each of those points, before writing every blog post, would go a long way in how much you put into it.

I really enjoyed it. Thank you!

Hey Josh,

Certainly a very divisive post over at Copyblogger, which is such a great resource, by the way. The one that hit me the most was having a background in science and engineering, as I have. Pretty much they were telling me I had no hope! :D

I’ll try to be more controversial from now on…

Take care,

Josh,

If it always works, why couldn’t you do it all the time? Don’t those two statements negate each other?

I read this post when it first came on coppy blogger and I believe it is actually the post that linked me to this site through a comment. None the less the post made me really take a good look at what I was doing with my blog. I actually was happy to see that the last warning sign was that your blog would suck if you were just starting out.

The biggest warning sign is probably if you promote it heavily and do not get any recurring visitors. Tools like google analytics can be used to measure returning visitors.

Thank you for sharing this great content! It’s definitely a “print out and safe” article. What really got me is … to write at least 1,000 words a day. I don’t do that, but I will definitely start doing that. I think that’s a great idea.

Again, thanks for sharing this and have a great week!

Hi Josh – yep that post captures the essence of creating Blog ratings. To play devils advocate though – I guess it does depend on what the Bloggers intention is as to whether they are succeeding.

I have no doubt a rant or diatribe about the latest uber celebrity or political or dare I say religious Blog would definitely produce the desired attention which is why schlock jocks do so well.

Personally I think if you are communicating authentically to an audience with similar interests and reciprocating- as with this forum even with modest participation the benefits are worthwhile

Thanks for sharing

Robert David Strong August 17, 2010 at 1:29 pm

Hey Josh,

Thank you so much for sharing that post, it was an eye opener for a fact, while most of my content is 500-750 words, I have found anything over 1000 you will start losing readers. UNLESS it is just a great story that has you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I am definitly going to take these into consideration before my next blog post. I have found for myself though, I can write out maybe 10 or 15 posts ( because I have the fire that day) and save them to be published in the future.

Reply

Josh Garcia August 17, 2010 at 5:25 pm

Hi Robert,

If you are posting one article a week, then I can see doing a 1000 word post. But when you do more than one a week 500 – 750 words is sufficient.
