What Everyone Ought to Know About Writing Articles

by Josh Garcia on June 7, 2010

writing articles

If you have been blogging or just starting out.

You should know that there are no secrets when it comes to writing articles for your blog.

However, knowing a few tips you can apply to your blog post can give you an advantage.

Whether you write content everyday or couple times a week. It’s important to know that you are gaining an advantage over other bloggers.

Realize that when you have a formula you become much more effective and you’ll benefit in so many ways.

My goal with this post is to encourage you and share the benefits of writing articles on a consistent basis. Again it doesn’t matter whether you write everyday or once a week.

The key is staying consistent. The payoff is greater than you think.

What you need to know about staying consistent with writing articles to your blog will benefit you:

  1. Allows you to create backlinks: If you are not familiar with backlinks. It’s simply links from other sites or blogs linking back to your written post. Search engines love this and if you have a lot of them it will give you authority. Writing content is a great way to generate backlinks
  2. You can increase your traffic: By constantly writing articles your skills will improve to write compelling articles for your target audience. This will allow you to develop loyal readers.
  3. Allows you to increase exposure: If you are on a budget for marketing. Posting articles is a great way to give your name exposure and brand it.
  4. You can increase credibility: Individuals are going to look at you with more credibility. Instead of someone who comes and goes in and out.
  5. The ability to increase leadership status: When you write articles in your field it will build you up as an expert and leader.

One of the best components of constantly writing articles you’ll have the benefit of generating leads and sales while maintaining a budget.

Hi Josh,
Article Marketing was one strategy that I struggled with as far as staying consistent. I think mostly because I set my expectations too high on the number of articles I should be writing per week. I focused on quantity over quality and quickly became overwhelmed.

Now do just the opposite and not only am I more consistent with my article writing but my reader base has been steadily increasing!

Have a great day!

Hi Grace,

I can see that happening getting burned out from writing a lot of articles. Even if someone stays consistent with one value added article once a week. They can still gain the benefits!

Have an awesome day!

Hi Josh,

Great article writing pointers here.

Writing articles is one of the better ways to establish yourself as an authority, for free. Actually it’ll only cost you time and energy. The more creative and valuable your articles the more likely you’ll get backlinks and develop a following.

I agree with Grace in that quality trumps quantity. I got caught up in the numbers game early on and it was overwhelming. Think “Impression” before anything else.

Thanks for sharing your insight.

Hi Josh,

Consistency is really important with article marketing. I slowed down my article writing. However when I was doing it, I was consistent about it.

The beautiful part is articles I wrote some time ago are still getting great click thru rates.

Josh,

One more tip that I’d like to add to help readers with their articles (since I’ve written almost 800), is to come up with numbered lists. People just can’t get enough of them. When you turn your article into “10 things that you never learned in business school,” or whatever, people feel as if they are getting something of value that they can take along with them.

Numbered lists are a great place to start if you are stuck for a topic.

thanks for a very sane article Josh. I agree about the quality being important and the consistency of posting, rather than trying to post more often than one can manage. If you constantly fall short of an unrealistic target, it becomes frustrating and quality will probably suffer too.

Josh thanks for being such a proponent of article marketing. If the key is to drive traffic to your website why not use some of the established services that are already getting traffic and divert some of that your way with creative content and the proper keywords. Makes all kind of sense to me.

Hey Josh,

Great post my friend.

I’ve learnt that consistency also comes from having a system. With a system in place for your article writing, things get much easier over time, and you subconsciously are in tune with that system; it thus becomes effortless when you get to writing.

A shortcut system I’ve learnt from a course I took to narrow down and make your writing easier is:
1. determine who you are writing your article for
2. what is their problem that you are solving
3. how are you solving that problem

Hope that adds to the discussion.

Have a great day my friend.

Hey Josh,

Great point about consistency. I really like how you mentioned whether it be daily, weekly, or whatever, do it consistently.

I’ve had to choose to keep my posting to 3 times a week while I develop other skills, but when I tested out posting daily, it really did make a difference with my Alexa rank.

Consistency is key. Great post!

Hi Susanna,

When you post daily it will make a huge difference in your Alexa ranking. But as long as the postings are staying consistent and not just posting one on Monday and then post again two weeks later on Wednesday. It takes a lot longer to develop loyal readers that way.

Have a great day!

I agree with a few of your points on article marketing, but with the ease it is to create videos, Im not sure of the future of article marketing.

Until then, http://AmericasNewsNow.com allows anyone to register and then post their article on our website. Whether its a personal story, news, or your latest business venture, we’d love to gear about it..
